The Train Didn't Have a Reservation
January 25, 2006
Before the Hollywood Freeway gouged through the Aliso Street
neighborhood downtown, a Santa Fe El Capitan train engine
overshot Union Station and crashed through a wall, into
an electric trolley pole, and almost into the laps of restaurant
diners. The brakeman jumped out before the crash, but the
engineer stayed on until the engine stopped, dangling 20
feet above Aliso Street.
